Hurricane Preparedness
Hurricane season is just around the corner. We encourage everyone to remain aware of developing storms and to keep your hurricane supplies stocked up. If you are new to the area and will require a special needs shelter to evacuate to, you will need to contact the Brevard County Emergency Management office at 321-637-6670 prior to the storms arrival.
Everbridge Emergency Alert Notifications
The police department is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Everbridge, a public mass-warning system that delivers immediate messages to our residents on several platforms and in several user-preferred languages. This technology will bring you real-time information on critical in-progress police incidents, such as active shooters, school lock-downs specific to Eastminster, Hoover, and Indialantic Elementary, major traffic crashes/road closures, bank robberies, etc. It will also send information on projected major town issues, such as maintenance road closures, selective police patrol enforcement campaigns, local severe weather event information (tropical storm and hurricane info) and scheduled town holiday events, to name a few.
To sign up for alerts, please go to https://member.everbridge.net/892807736724796/login. From there, you may sign up for a free account. Simply enter the requisite information (you will have to create an account, to include a user name and password) and select “Indialantic” as your notification area (geo mapped specifically to the Town of Indialantic proper). You may select to receive text messages, emails, and automated calls for up to two numbers and email addresses. We have set the default notification end time to 10:00 pm for routine messages; however, we may push emergency notifications at any time of the day or night. Routine messages will not be pushed after 10:00 pm so day workers may get their sleep.
We will continue to post hazard and other police department information on our social media sites; however, the Everbridge warning system will be our first push during a critical incident, as it will be the fastest way to deliver important information. Therefore, I encourage every town resident and business owner to sign up to the Everbridge platform at the above link. You may also download the Everbridge app to your smartphone.
These types of community warning platforms, such as our current legacy emergency warning vendor, typically cost several thousands of dollars in licensing and performance fees per annum to tax payers. Thanks to Senior Communications Officer Amanda Konstant and Sergeant Timothy Weber’s collaboration with the Brevard County Emergency Operations Center and the Florida Division of Emergency Management, the Everbridge mass-warning system is being brought to you free of charge, and the legacy vendor’s services will no longer be required as of October 1, 2022.
