On behalf of the Indialantic Police Department, we would like to take this opportunity to say farewell to our friend and colleague, Officer Terry Tenpenny. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. For those of you who do not know me, you soon will! My name is Officer Ryan Deschenes and I will be taking over the reigns from Officer Tenpenny as your Community Policing Officer. I have been serving the Indialantic community since 2001 and with law enforcement experience from Connecticut to Boston and then Indialantic, I will strive to better assist you with an understanding of the services that our department provides and meet the changing needs for our families, businesses, and tourism. This will enable us as a community, working together, to grow and build upon our strengths. I look forward to meeting with you and working together to keep our community safe. In addition, as we set goals for 2008, know that I have full intentions to increase the ranks of the Indialantic Police Explorers, our youth who volunteer their time to aid in Town functions and learn the fundamentals of law enforcement. We at the Indialantic Police Department are in the community, on your streets, and outside your homes and businesses 24 hours a day. I encourage you to call, ask questions and report suspicious activity. “Make Our Business Yours.” You can contact me at rdeschenes@indialantic.com or call our information and non-emergency line at 321-723-7788. Information about the many services we provide to our Town residents and businesses can also be found in the Police section of the Town website at www.indialantic.com. FIRE RESCUE As we begin the new year the Fire Department is beginning with our spring cleaning projects. This is a good time of year for you to consider the same while the air is cool and more comfortable to take on tasks that need to be completed. Please remember to keep safety in mind especially when using a ladder or stepladder. Have someone foot the ladder before you climb it and be certain that small ladders are on a secure base. When mixing cleaning chemicals be sure that they do not cause a chemical reaction. Actually it is best not to mix chemicals unless you are aware of the potential hazards that can occur. While you are sprucing up your home be sure your house numbers are easily identifiable and of a different color than the background. Within the next 30 days we will begin our annual testing of fire hydrants in the town. The National Fire Protection Association requires that all hydrants be flow tested annually. The Fire Department does our own testing and we maintain records of all the flow values. The insurance companies frequently request these figures and in many cases these figures help keep your fire insurance low. It also allows us to determine if there is a damaged or defective hydrant. Should you notice a slight color change in your water please run the faucet for a few minutes and it should clear up. Occasionally someone will be washing clothes and they will find their clothes have a dingy appearance to them. If this should happen please contact Melbourne Water at 321-674-5726 as they have an additive that will clean your clothes. This process of testing will take a couple of months as we can only flow the hydrants between 9AM and noon weekdays. Please be patient. Chief Macdonald |
