The Police Department frequently receives calls in reference to door-to-door solicitation. Under Indialantic Town Code Section 10-17 it is only unlawful for a commercial solicitor or peddler to go in or on a private residence if the property owner or occupant has given notice that they are not interested in being approached by a peddler or solicitor. Notice may be given by posting and continuously maintaining a sign not to exceed 4” X 12” in a conspicuous location on the private residential property which states “No Soliciting” or words of a substantially similar nature. The owner or agent of a non-condominium apartment building may post the common areas of the apartment property. Peddlers and solicitors are not required to be licensed by the Town and the code does not address solicitation at a business or a condominium. The full text of the code can be viewed on the Town web site, www.indialantic.com or a copy can be obtained at Town Hall. “No Solicitation” signs are available for purchase from the volunteers at the Indialantic Fire Department (723-0366) for $5.00. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call either Community Policing Officer Terry Tenpenny or myself at 723-7788. Residents are reminded that when leaving Town they should remember to cancel newspaper subscriptions, have mail retained at the post office or by a neighbor, and have a neighbor pick up any advertisements or newspapers that are left in front of their property. Troy W. Morris, Chief of Police Cliff Notes: Spring is just around the corner and work is beginning to pick up. Before you hire a contractor, whether you are having a fence installed or building a new home, please take the time to do some background checking. Ask for references and call them. You can also call the County Contractor Licensing at 633-2058 to check for complaints. The Department of Business and Professional Regulation should also be contacted to determine the current license status. This could help you avoid potential problems. FIRE RESCUE The Fire Department has been very busy with training and other ancillary work. Three of our firefighters were recently certified as Live Fire Burn Instructors. We are currently performing business fire safety inspections and are about to begin our annual fire hydrant testing. When the department tests hydrants it will sometimes cause the water in your home to discolor. This is a short-term event and can usually be resolved by letting your water run for a couple of minutes. Should you be washing clothes they may become discolored from the water. If this happens please contact Melbourne Water as they have a product that will restore the clothes from the discolored water. Please feel free to contact the fire department at 723-0366 to see if we will be flowing hydrants in your area. For all homeowners please note that house numbers are required on all homes in Indialantic. “The house number of every residence and commercial establishment shall be prominently displayed on the face of the building, or on a mailbox or other structure near the street. The numbers shall not be more than 75 feet from the property line, and shall be clearly visible from the street.” “Numbers may be numerals or script and shall be in contrast with the color of the immediate background on which they are mounted. The numbers shall be at least two and one-half inches in height, for residences and three and one-half inches in height for commercial premises. We will be checking for compliance with this ordinance while we perform our annual hydrant inspections. Jon Macdonald, Fire Chief
Concrete was recently installed in Sunrise Park for nine additional parking spaces. Don Bo, Inc. performed the work with Public Works personnel adding the parking stops, stripes and parking meters. This work completes improvements to Sunrise Park that consist of a covered observation deck, over 700 feet of walkway, a dune crossover, and a variety of exercise stations. The property is owned by the State, leased to Brevard County, and sub-leased to the Town. It was annexed into the Town in 2001 |
