      I.            Call to Order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Chairman Goldner called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. 

 

 

    II.            Approval of prior Meeting Minutes

 

Minutes 07-01, October 23, 2006

Ms. Benevente moved to approve the minutes as amended.  Ms. Schwanbeck seconded.  Motion carried unanimously.  Note: Date should have been September 25, 2006.

 

 

  III.            Treasurer’s Report – Betty Preece

 

Ms. Preece requested that a breakdown of the expenses be included with future Minutes.  The Committee asked Ms. Twitty-Mercer to provide this information and she agreed to attach the General Ledger Detail Report and the Statement of Revenues and Expenses with future Minutes.  Ms. Potts-Hendry moved to approve the September statement.  Ms. Benevente seconded.  Motion carried unanimously. 

 

 

IV.            Town Hall Report

 

Mr. Cassedy mentioned that Lee’s Wrecker Service would provide the trailer for the Christmas Tree Lighting.

 

Penny Brandt will be contacted from the school.

 

Mr. Cassedy mentioned that the dumpster at Nance Park is in the process of being moved to another location.

 

Mr. Cassedy noted that the Nance Park playground equipment provided by Game Time is in the process of being replaced due to it rusting. Mr. Cassedy mentioned that he has applied rust removal and paint, but the equipment is still in disrepair and bad condition. Game Time will replace the large piece of equipment next year while it is still under warranty. Uprights and handrails were purchased in 2001 and have a fifteen-year warranty.

 

Mr. Cassedy advised that the sidewalk that was in front of the old Ocean View Diner will be replaced with a swale and the sidewalk that runs parallel to Wavecrest Avenue will be lowered instead of one with a hump.

 

Mr. Cassedy was advised that the Solar Lights on the signs coming into Town do not illuminate.

 

Mr. Cassedy, on behalf of his staff, thanked the Committee for the Cake Certificate.

 

  V.            Beautification

 

The Beautification sign is now posted at the Yorkey residence at 400 Michigan Avenue.

 

Mr. Chinault recommended that the Indialantic Post Office would be a good location for the Beautification sign in the future.  They have improved their vegetation and a have made a dynamic change in appearance.

 

Any suggestions for the next locations are welcomed as well.

           

 

VI.            Parks

 

Ms. Preece advised her parks (Douglas, Tradewinds & Wavecrest) were looking good.

 

Ms. Benevente advised there were a few problems at her parks (Riverside & Sunset). The light on the Town entrance sign wasn’t working by Sunset Park.  At Riverside Park, there is a board on the rocks making it appear as if someone is sitting there.

 

Ms. Goldner advised her parks (Indian River, Lily & Sunrise) were looking good.

 

Ms. Berkman advised there were a few problems at her parks (Nance & Orlando).  Orlando Park - rope was missing.  Mr. Cassedy advised he would take care of it this date.  Nance Park - two showerheads were broken.

 

Ms. Benevente questioned the fence in Sunset Park.  Mr. Chinault advised her that the fence was on the property line. The Right of Way is 40 feet wide.

 

 

VII.            Recreation

 

Ms. Schwanbeck will make phone calls to remind the Police Department, Fire Department, Santa, Mayor or Deputy Mayor about the Tree Lighting.

 

Mr. Cassedy will provide the chairs and tables for the Tree Lighting event.

 

6:15 p.m. is the meeting time at Nance Park to setup for the Tree Lighting.

 

Ms. Potts-Hendry is looking at getting three cases of cookies from Wendy’s Restaurant. She will also contact Starbucks Coffee to see about coffee.  She also will contact Cold Stone to see if they will donate a couple of cakes for this year, as they have done in the past.

 

Ms. Schwanbeck advised that the Committee would be putting together the Luminaries after the meeting.  She also advised that the Indialantic Record mentioned the sale of the Luminaries.  Luminaries will be available this Friday, December 1, 2006.

 

Ms. Schwanbeck asked Ms. Twitty-Mercer if she would put up a sign regarding the sale of the Luminaries in Town Hall.  Ms. Twitty-Mercer agreed to do so.

 

Regarding the Tree Lighting, Ms. Schwanbeck advised the Committee that the coffee would be for the adults and that the cookies would be for the kids.  Ms. Benevente would be bringing the hats and tablecloths.  Ms. Goldner would be bringing the Luminaries.

 

Ms. Schwanbeck advised that the Committee has over one hundred Luminaries available.  The price is $4.00 for 10 candles and bags.

 

VIII.            Other

 

A. Proposal to Town Council prohibiting fishing and parking along Causeway:

Ms. Benevente said that more than likely that the fishing will be objected to, however,  “No Parking” will be opposed because no one will want to walk to go fishing.

 

Ms. Goldner mentioned that people would be tempted to stand on the bridge while fishing.

 

Ms. Schwanbeck suggested that the signs for posting are too expensive.

 

Ms. Berkman was concerned about the parking issue.

 

Ms. Benevente suggested that Douglas and Riverside Parks would be crowded with people parking their vehicles there and walking to go fishing.

 

Mr. Chinault advised that the Department of Transportation must be asked for the “No Parking” signs.  He also advised that the Department of Transportation would not enforce the “No Parking”.  The south side of SR500/US192 will have new vegetation of trees in January 2007.  He’s also noticed more activity on the south side of SR500/192.  Mr. Chinault also advised that fishing on the relief bridges is more of a safety issue.

 

Ms. Goldner asked Mr. Chinault if there would be a fence on the south side of SR500/US192 as reflected on the previously submitted Parks & Recreation Committee Plans.  Mr. Chinault advised that they would wait to see after the vegetation is placed.

 

Mr. Chinault, Ms. Benevente, Ms. Goldner, and Ms. Schwanbeck agreed that they should wait to see what effect the trees would have.

 

 

B. Luminaria:

Already discussed above.

 

C. Christmas Tree Lighting – December 7, 2006 @ 7:00 p.m.

Already discussed above.

 

            D. 55th Anniversary Celebration – March 31, 2007:

Ms. Preece is still working on the ideas with Ms. Andren about the arial view of the Town.  The fund to pay for the photograph was estimate at $20.00, however, now the estimate appears to be $50.00.

 

Mr. Chinault motioned for Ms. Preece to use the money from the “Recreation Events” account.  Ms. Preece moved up to $50.00 for the Recreation Exhibit.  Ms. Potts-Hendry seconded.  Motion carried unanimously.
