Ms. Preece moved to approve Minutes No. 06-03. Ms. Benevente seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
III. Treasurer’s Report – Betty Preece
The March treasurer report was not yet available.
IV. Town Hall Report – Ron Cassedy
Mr. Cassedy reported that the climbing wall in Orlando Park is under construction and that plans to extend the sidewalk are pending the availability of funding.
Mr. Chinualt gave further details on the construction expansion and illustrated a proposed sidewalk loop linking the play equipment.
Ms. Preece asked about incorporating benches and picnic tables into the plan.
Mr. Cassedy stated that, after the sidewalk is completed, the committee can identify spots to locate the tables and benches and Public Works can install them using committee funds.
Mr. Chinault gave an update on the Council action against restrooms in Orlando Park and reported that the Nance and Sunrise “as built” plans have been completed.
Mr. Chinault also presented a proposal for better pedestrian mobility in Nance Park which included resurfacing and new play equipment.
V. Beautification
A. Allocation of beautification sign
Ms. Benevente nominated the residence at the corner of Palm and Wayne, 240 Palm Ave.
Ms. Preece nominated the property at the corner of Michigan and Ramona.
The committee members will view the nominees and make a selection at the next meeting.
I. Parks
Ms. Benevente noted a problem with the roofing over the Riverside pier.
Mr. Cassedy explained that this is due to the pelicans.
II. Recreation
A. Easter Egg Hunt
Ms. Benevente raised the issue of 9-10 year olds overrunning the 7-8 year old patch leaving some children with no eggs.
Suggestions were made to reinstate the 9-10 year old patch or extend the 7-8 to 7-10.
It was the consensus to have the Police Explorers better patrol the area and try to discourage “greed”.
Ms. Schwanbeck noted that the signs needed to be replaced.
Ms. Goldner stated that her daughter, Mikayla Davis, had volunteered to design new signs and felt a letter thanking her for community service would be sufficient compensation.
III. Other
Ms. Benevente brought up the poor visibility of the Indialantic Town signs especially at night.
Mr. Cassedy noted that the intention was to keep the signs low profile and uniform and lighting would be an expensive task.
Mr. Cassedy also noted that Public Works was installing a swale at the property on the corner of Michigan and Ramona, which had been nominated for the beautification award. He advised the members they might want to wait a while before inspecting it.
IV. Items for next Meeting – May 22, 2006
V. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 9:50 am.
