      I.               CALL TO ORDER AT 9:00 AM

     II.               APPROVAL OF PRIOR MEETING MINUTES

A.      Minutes 05-08, July 27, 2005

 

Mr. Deratany moved to approve the minutes of July 27, 2005.   Mrs. Schwanbeck seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

   III.               TREASURER’S REPORT- Betty Preece

 

The only expense since last meeting was the $200 for the band for the August concert in the park.  Mr. Gust mentioned that a purchase order needs to be prepared ahead of time for the next event.

 

  IV.               TOWN HALL REPORT – R. Cassedy

 

Mr. Cassedy informed the Committee of several purchases that need to be completed. Motions are as follows:

A.      Swinging benches.  Mr. Deratany moved to purchase two swinging benches, color hunter green, to be used for Douglas Park and Orlando Park. Mrs. Schwanbeck seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The funds used for these purchases are funds that are left over in the Beautification budget for the current fiscal year.

 

B. Spring animals (playground equipment).  Mr. Deratany moved to purchase two Spring animals, one Turtle and one Sea-Horse, to be used for Nance Park. Mrs. Schwanbeck seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The funds used for these purchases are grant funds.

 

C. Climbing Wall (playground equipment).  Mrs. Schwanbeck moved to purchase one Climbing Wall, color grey/blue, to be used for Nance Park. Mr. Deratany seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The funds used for these purchases are grant funds.

 

Other:  Mr. Cassedy reported to the Committee that work has started at Sunrise park – FPL installed utility poll, the well was tapped, the irrigation system installed.  He reported that the contractor will start work shortly on the handicap parking and access.  In addition, the other project that will start shortly is the landscaping project proposed by Eagle Scout Nick Hobbs. 

 

Mr. Chinault reported that the newsletter is at the printer and will be mailing shortly. There are several important upcoming events that are listed in the newsletter including the tree lighting and the Halloween event.  He also reported that the work on Orlando Park will start on October 1st.

 

Welcome:  Officer Tenpenny expressed his wish to attend the Parks and Recreation Committee meetings as a police department liaison.  He was welcomed by the committee.

   V.               BEAUTIFICATION

Committee members were urged to bring nominations for the beautification award to the next committee meeting.

  VI.               PARKS

A committee member reported that a concrete bench located at Indian River Park was turned over and is in the adjoining ditch.  Mr. Cassedy said he would take care of it and possibly relocate the bench to another park.

VII.               RECREATION

Mr. Gust reported on the concert in the park that happened in August.  Good feedback from those in attendance. 

 

A motion was made by Mrs. Mrs. Schwanbeck and seconded by Mrs. Goldner to hold another Concert in the Park scheduled for Sunday, November 13th from 2-4 p.m. Motion passed unanimously.  Mr. Gust mentioned that that weekend is Veteran’s Day weekend and we might want to have a patriotic theme to the event.

 

VIII.               OTHER

A.      Discussion regarding spending money left in budget.  After the purchase of the swinging benches there is approximately $459.00 left in this year’s Beautification Budget.  A motion was made by Mrs. Goldner and seconded by Mr. Deratany to give up to $300 to Mr. Cassedy to purchase holiday decorations and the remaining balance to Mrs. Schwanbeck to purchase necklaces, t-shirts, and paper for the tree-lighting event. Motion passed unanimously

 

B.     Tree-Lighting Event:  Mrs. Schwanbeck handed out a detailed month by month plan of what needs to take place for this event.
