Mr. Cassedy informed the Committee that the Santa Claus decoration is not available; the alternative chosen is the poinsettia along with the wrapped packages. They will be installed the week of Thanksgiving.
Nick Hobbs presented his landscape plan for Magnolia pedway to Ron to present to the Committee. Ms. Preece said funding for the plants would be provided by three organizations: Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of 1812 and the Daughters of American Colonists. Ms. Preece would like a small discreet sign to show who funded the project. Ms. Preece will approach the organizations to request a total of $225.00 to fund the project, which would include the fabric to prohibit weed growth.
Ms. Preece moved to accept Mr. Hobbs’ plan and to accept the offer of the patriotic groups to fund and include signage to show who funded. Ms. Goldner seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
The Nance Park bleachers have been taken out, to be replaced this week. The decking of the boardwalk will continue.
Sunrise Park sidewalk to be completed. FPL to install pole for the pump for the spigot at Sunrise Park.
A. Discuss south side of causeway improvements and beautification.
After much discussion the Committee has agreed on the following suggestions for the causeway improvements:
install a split rail fence from the first telephone manhole east to the last palm trees, leaving openings for pedestrians on either side of each light pole, closing up the ends with a section of fence to prevent traffic; place trash receptacles at every other light pole; place benches abutting the bike path under palms for shading. There would be a total of six benches at a cost of approximately $800.00 each including hardware and concrete. The installation of the fence must be approved by DOT.
Ms. Preece moved to accept the plan as stated. Ms. Benevente seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
A. Discussion of concert in the park scheduled for August 28 from 5 to 7 pm
Chairman Gust distributed flyers to committee members for the upcoming concert. The band is the Kenny Michaels Band. They play an eclectic mix of classic rock, funk and soul. The fee for the concert is $200.00.
Ms. Goldner motioned to pay the Kenny Michaels band $200.00 for the concert on August 28, Ms. Benevente seconded, motion passed unanimously.
A. Discuss spending money left in budget
Mr. Deratany would like to use the money left to expand the parking in Douglas Park, with the Deratanys sharing the cost with the Town.
Chairman Gust would like to purchase adult swings to place in the parks. The cost of each swing is approximately $1,100, with the remaining monies being $2,550 we would be able to purchase two such swings.
The cost for installing parking at Douglas Park would have to be determined after the Town engineer designed a plan and a contractor was found.
Ms. Preece moved to install parking in Douglas Park, if the Deratanys choose not to match funds with the Town then go with the alternate plan of adult swings. Ms. Goldner seconded, motion passed unanimously.
