Chairman Benevente called the meeting to order at 10:00 am.
A. Minutes 03-09 September 8, 2003
Ms. Young moved to accept prior minutes
Ms. Schwanbeck seconded, motion passed unanimously.
Mr. McLaughlin moved to accept the treasurer’s report, Ms. Schwanbeck seconded, motion passed unanimously.
Public works planted the Norfolk Island pine trees in Carey Park. Plans for Sunrise Park have been submitted to the County for approval.
Publics works is trimming trees in the right-of-ways around town. A portion of the roof of the gazebo in Orlando Park has been replaced.
Crossover number 11 will be repaired after turtle season. The portion of the boardwalk north of the bathrooms will be repaired.
A. Causeway has no irrigation, Ron will fertilize after priority work around town has been taken care of.
B. No new nominees for the beautification award have been submitted.
A. Three Norfolk Island pines were planted in Gus Carey Park.
B. Ms. Goldner reported that at Indian River Park there is a canoe someone has left there to apparently launch it into the river, it is blocking part of the path.
C. Mr. Chinault presented different renderings to replace the Nance Park sign. Mr. Nance will be paying for the sign; he just wanted this committee’s input on sign style. Committee selected a large stucco sign with plastic or wood insert.
D. Mr. Chinault presented the five-year CIP for parks related items, which include:
Melbourne Causeway path rehabilitation totaling $50,000 to be completed by May, 2006.
Nance Park improved access totaling $50,000.
Ms. Schwanbeck moved to support the five-year CIP as presented, MS. Young seconded, motion passed unanimously.
Ms. Schwanbeck requested that committee members stay after the next meeting to bag luminaria. The tree lighting has been scheduled for Thursday, December 4. Ms. Hendry is waiting for a reply from the district manager of Wendy’s regarding the cookies.
Ron and Ms. Benevente selected the holiday decorations for the light poles on Fifth Avenue; they will be wreaths with candles and Christmas trees.
