Chairman Bohlmann called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
A. Minutes 01-04, February 13, 2001 were approved with the correction of IV-6: change Sunrise Park to Sunset Park.
Ms Kowalski informed the Committee that February expenses were $65.00 to the Looking Glass Cottage, $78.14 to Jenny Schell (this will be reimbursed from the $900.00 donation from Mayor Cochran), $366 for infant swings and $663.50 for older children’s swings.
The unencumbered balances are as follows: Recreation $1,870.70, Beautification $7,150.00 and Luminaria $12,477.14.
Mr. McLaughlin moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Ms. Thomson seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Cassedy advised that the Playground Equipment Committee has selected a GameTime piece of play equipment that fits the budget. The piece is blue and white.
Mr. Jim Sims, a representative of the GameTime Company was present to answer questions. A sample of the equipment material was displayed. The bolt-thru system is connected with stainless steel bolts with the exception of the area under deck. (galvanized bolts)
The system is ADA compliant with the addition of one ground level component, which can be added later.
Mr. Sims recommended age-appropriate signs (5-12 year of age) be added.
Touch-up paint will be included and galvanized bolts will be replaced for the lifetime of the equipment.
Mr. McLaughlin moved to purchase the equipment. Ms. Mauter seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Ron continued his report with the information that the playground maintenance fee has been raised to $495.00. ($500.00 was budgeted)
§ The bathroom exterior at Nance Park has been painted and the inside fixtures replaced. The inside is to be painted soon.
§ The handicap ramp construction is underway.
§ The pavers for Fifth Avenue have been delivered.
§ A truck making deliveries to 7-Eleven has run over some median plants. 7-Eleven was billed for replacement plants.
A. Fountain Committee report
Ms. Thomson presented a concept drawing of a 5 X 7’ arched sign supported by two 16” square domed columns. The face of the sign has a tile turtle, several small turtles and a defined border. The sign can be lit by sidelights from the masonry columns.
Non-slip tiles form the outside area of the sign with the words “Indialantic est. 1952, in tile along the bottom.
After discussion, Ms. Kowalski moved to proceed with the design concept including masonry, electrical and engineering drawing. Mr. McLaughlin seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
A. Presentation for concert in Orlando Park or Nance Park
Andrea Guinn, from Satellite High School and Betsy Vosper from Satellite Parents Band Association, informed the Committee that the school band is raising money for a trip to Paris, one of only 10 bands selected to attend from the U.S.
A small jazz group of 3-4 people would perform for several hours for $300.00.
Ms. Kowalski moved that Chairman Bohlmann request Town Council approval for concerts in the park. Ms. Schwanbeck seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Ms. Schwanbeck had the Easter Egg Hunt candy available for distribution to patch volunteers.
Discussion of parking problems at Sunset Park – requested by Ms. Benevente
Ms. Benevente advised the Committee that cars are parking on the Sunset Park property as well as a boat and at one point a boat was launched from this site.
After discussion the Committee recommended that the Town Manager, Mr. Chinault, instruct the Code Enforcement Officer to contact the property owners (and management company-Fogg Realty) to inform renters of the Sunset Park property line.
