1. CALL TO ORDER AT 10:00 A.M.
Chairman Hay called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
2. APPROVAL OF PRIOR MEETING MINUTES
Minutes No. 99-5 March 9, 1999 were approved as written.
3. TREASURER=S REPORT - K. Kowalski
Mrs. Kowalski stated that the accounts remain the same as last month. Easter Egg Hunt expenses have not yet been taken out.
4. TOWN HALL/COMMUNITY CONCERNS
A. Dir. Public Works - Ron Cassedy
Ron advised the committee that the bushes in the front and rear of town hall are dead or dying and need to be replaced. He requested new plants be purchased using the Beautification Fund.
Mrs. Kowalski moved that Ron pursue pricing on landscaping for the front and rear of
town hall using the Beautification Fund, if the price is acceptable. Mr. Bohlmann seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Ron also reported that the median project is looking good.
5. PARKS
A. Nance Park-Play Equipment
Ron advised the committee that the county approved his request to purchase equipment, plant Sea Grapes and build a fence at Nance Park. There is money in the budget designated for Nance Park improvements.
B. Holiday Tree
Put on hold.
C. Improvements to Orlando Park (Requested by
Deputy Mayor Frazier)
The
committee discussed Deputy Mayor Frazier=s
request that this committee approve a
plan to construct small restrooms on either side of the pump house for children
to use while playing at the
park. The restrooms would include toilets only and would be locked at night.
She also suggested installing an outside sink next to the water fountain.
Ron
suggested to the committee that a AFun
Tunnel@ for younger
kids could be installed near the existing basketball court in Orlando Park. The
cost is $550 and sand around it would be $150.
Mrs. Kowalski moved that $10,000 reserved for Nance Park basketball court be used to resurface and improve the basketball court in Orlando Park. Mr. Bohlmann seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Bohlmann suggested a committee be formed to look at play equipment in the area and report back with their recommendations. It was decided that Carol Thomson, Ron Cassedy, Barbara Coburn, Rose Benevente and Ken Bohlmann will look at the equipment as a group or individually before the next meeting.
6. RECREATION
A. Easter Egg Hunt Report
Marge thanked all who helped with this event and received congratulations from Mrs. Coburn on the great job she is doing. All committee members applauded Mrs. Schwanbeck on her management of events.
B. Costumes for Events
Marge suggested purchasing costumes rather than renting for future events. She has received quotes for 3 costumes (bunny, chicken and Santa Claus) at $175 - $200 each. This price is for top quality costumes.
Mrs. Kowalski moved to purchase 3 costumes for approximately $200 each for future events. The money would come from the Recreation Fund. Mrs. Hayward seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
7. BEAUTIFICATION
A. Signs/Park
Ron presented a sign rendering (green with beige) for committee approval. All agreed on the presented color combination and style.
Mrs. Coburn proposed to remove waves from the park signs. They would remain the same color. Mrs. Hayward seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Ron will decide sizes needed and get new prices before ordering. The old price was $6,940 including posts. This committee has funds to cover the expenditure for signs.
B. Holiday Lighting-Wreaths/Banners, Etc.
After discussion the committee decided to go to the council with a replacement estimate of wreaths and lighting.
Based on a recommendation from Ron regarding the deterioration of existing wreaths and dangerous electrical boxes Mrs. Kowalski moved that council be made aware that replacement cost for electrical work and holiday decorations for Fifth Avenue is at least $25,000 to $30,000.
Mrs. Coburn seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
8. OLD BUSINESS
A. Election of Officers
Ken Bohlmann was elected Chairman, Marge Schwanbeck as Vice Chairman and Mrs. Kowalski as Treasurer.
Mrs. Coburn thanked Nancee J. Hay for 4 years of dedicated work for this committee.
All concurred.
9. NEW BUSINESS
A. Budget Committee
Marge Schwanbeck, Barbara Coburn, Katherine Kowalski and Carol Thomson will man the Budget Committee.
10. ADJOURNMENT was at 11:30, next meeting May 11, 1999.
