Heritage Committee

Ms. Marx made a motion, seconded by Mr. Miller, to approve the minutes of June
17, 2003. The motion was approved.
Ms. Andren advised that she reported to Town Council on June 24, requested $750
for the work of the Committee, and the request was approved by Council.
She also reported that David Paterno of the Brevard Historical Commission
requested information regarding the Heritage Committee for publishing in a
future issue of the BREVARD QUARTERLY JOURNAL.
Ms Marx reported that she was advised where the original plot plat
and other historical materials were located regarding the founding of
Indialantic by Ernest Kouwen-Hoven.
The Committee discussed and voted to approve a description of the function and
purpose of the Committee which will be printed in the town's various
descriptions of its committees. The desciption is as follows:
"The Indialantic Heritage Committee is
charged with identifying historical resources and acquiring, preserving and
disseminating historical materials and information related to the town of
Indialantic, Florida."
Mr. Miller reported on his telephone conversation with the St. Mark's United Methodist
Church requesting information regarding its history.
Ms. Andren reported that she had a conversation with UCF Professor Dr. Lori
Walters, official historian for the U.S. space program, about the possibility
of training people to conduct oral interviews as well as personally conducting
oral interviews for the Committee. A motion was made by Ms. Marx and
seconded by Mr. Miller that the Heritage Committee enter into an agreement with
Dr. Walters to begin an oral history program. The motion was approved.
The Committee noted that the next meeting will be Tuesday, August 19.
Chairman Andren adjourned the meeting at 8:48 A.M.
