NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR U.S. 192
(MELBOURNE CAUSEWAY) BRIDGES
INDIALANTIC – Motorists traveling the U.S. Highway 192 Relief Bridges, which are part of the Melbourne Causeway over the Indian River, will soon encounter a new traffic pattern. As part of this bridge replacement project, traffic on the north bridge is scheduled on Thursday, July 1, 2010 to shift onto the south bridge.
This change will remain in effect for approximately eight months, and will allow crews to rebuild the north bridge. Please be advised that construction schedules may change due to bad weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Five, and Johnson Brothers, Inc., in April began this design-build project to replace three relief bridges and to build a pedestrian bridge along the Melbourne Causeway. This construction project will last approximately 550 days, weather permitting, and cost an estimated $9.6 million dollars.
The FDOT would like to remind drivers that wearing a safety belt is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. Please drive cautiously in work zones.
