I. Call to Order
Chairperson Ms. Berkman called the meeting to order at 9:12 a.m.

II. Approval of prior Meeting Minutes
Minutes 10-06; April 26, 2010
Mr. Michelson moved to approve the minutes. Ms. Deratany Goldfarb seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

III. Town Hall Report –Mr. Cassedy & Mr. Chinault
Sunrise Park
Mr. Cassedy advised that the picnic table that was mentioned at the last meeting has been removed and replaced.

Wavecrest Extension Park, Wavecrest Park & Indialantic Ocean Beach Park
Mr. Cassedy advised that additional trashcans were placed on the beach at crossovers including near the Wendy’s restaurant along the boardwalk. Ms. Berkman noticed that there are two trashcans at every other beachside crossover. Ms. Berkman suggested to put one trashcan at every crossover. Mr. Cassedy will address the issue.

Orlando Park
The FRDAP application for $50,000.00, which was approved by Council, was sent to FDEP on September 01, 2009. The application is intended to provide improved park access at the northeast and southeast corners of the park as well as providing for additional play items. FDEP ranked this project as #10 in a field of 25 Small Projects- Development; however, FDEP did not recommend any money for any project for FY-11. The Governor has yet to sign the State’s FY-11 Budget.

Orlando Park
Mr. Cassedy advised that a fifteen-foot Queen Palm was donated to the Town and planted in the North West corner of the park.

Orlando Park
Mr. Chinault advised that there is a tree along the east side of the park that may have to be replaced due to a growth of Laurel Wilt fungus on it. Mr. Chinault and Mr. Cassedy are evaluating the growth to verify if the tree will need to be removed.

Speed Limit
Council previously approved the speed limit to be reduced on Orlando Blvd. and on May 18, 2010 reduced the speed limit on Ormond Dr. Public Works will be installing new speed limit signs this date. Both streets are to be posted at 20mph.
Annual Halloween Party
Mr. Chinault invited all to attend the annual Halloween party, located in the parking lot of Town Hall/ Police Department on October 16, 2010, from 4:00 to 8:00. The next planning meeting is June 11, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.

IV. Beautification
Status of Beautification Award sign
Ms. Berkman advised the sign is currently at Victor S. & Lorraine P. Kostro, 210 Orlando Blvd. At the previous meeting, Ms. Nadeau suggested 110 Twelfth Avenue. Ms. Berkman moved to nominate 110 Twelfth Avenue. Ms. Deratany Goldfarb seconded Motion carried unanimously. Ms. Twitty-Mercer will mail a letter to the property owner notifying of the awarded sign.

Nominations will be discussed for new locations at the next meeting.

V. Parks

Ms. Deratany Goldfarb mentioned that the duck spring toy is missing. Only the spring to the toy is attached. Mr. Cassedy will address the problem.

Sunrise Park & Sunset Park – Bernie Gott
Not present.

VI. Recreation
Eastminster Presbyterian Church Family Movie Night, Friday, June 25, 2010 @ 8:00 p.m.
The movie of choice is undecided. Ms. Berkman will make a choice for the Committee. The time of the event has changed from 7:00/7:30 to 8:00/8:30.

Third Annual Witch Way 5K, Saturday, October 23, 2010 @ 6:00 p.m.
Ms. Deratany Goldfarb introduced Ms. Anne Mayer from The Nature Conservancy. Both discussed the Oyster Reef Restoration Project. Volunteers are needed to help restore dead oyster reefs for an oyster reef restoration project. The goal is to restore oyster reefs in Mosquito Lagoon, volunteers make oyster shell which are made up of thirty-six oyster mats attached vertically with zip ties. The mats are attached to each other forming a large quilt-like structure.

Mr. Chinault questioned how the funds would be disbursed for The Nature Conservancy. Ms. Mayer advised for the expenses of rent, office supplies, etc. Ms. Deratany Goldfarb advised that assisting the office in the Town, would keep the business in Town.

Ms. Mayer discussed the possibility of having the funds disbursed just for the Oyster Reef Restoration Project as an option.
Ms. Mayer is willing to have a booth setup at the WW5K event, to make oyster mats.

To further educate the public, a booth may be setup at the Friday@Fifth event and the Annual Halloween Party. Both events are before the WW5K.

Ms. Deratany Goldfarb made a motion to select The Nature Conservancy, 201 North Riverside Drive, Suite B., for the fifty-fifty split. Ms. Berkman seconded. Motion carried unanimously. The motion will be present to the Town Council meeting, June 15, 2010 for approval.

Guest Leslie Tibbetts, VP Merchant Services at Bank of America, proposed that there would be fees with a total around $250.00, enabling participants to pay with a credit card/debit card to register for the WW5K.

Ms. Henderson personally knows a graphic designer that she will contact to see if they are interested and willing to work with the WW5K event.

WW5K meeting will be June 01, 2010 @ 9:00 a.m. at Java Surf, Inc., 2 Wavecrest Avenue.

Ms. Deratany Goldfarb advised that the WW5K has two sponsors.
· Peaceful Beach Mediation & Collaboration, 503 Fifth Avenue, Suite 105, Indialantic
· Melbourne & Beaches Music Marathon

VII. Other
Vacation months for Committee
Ms. Berkman moved to change the vacation month for the Committee from August to July. Ms. Deratany Goldfarb seconded. Motion carried unanimously. On July 26, 2010, there will not be a meeting. On August 23, 2010, there will be a meeting.
