I. Call to Order
Chairperson Marx called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m.
II. Approval of prior Meeting Minutes
Minutes 08-11; August 19, 2008
Ms. Bozeman motioned to approve the minutes from Meeting 08-11; August 19, 2008. Ms. Dunn seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
III. Report from Chairperson Marx
A. Chairperson Marx brought it to the committee’s attention that many people didn’t know about the DVD’s. Ms. Milligan suggested letting the homeowners association know about the DVD’s.
Ms. Quilleux suggested mailing bulk advertisement about the DVD’s. This was turned down immediately, due to the cost it would be.
Chairperson Marx will ask Ms. Eaton about advertising the DVD’s for sale in the
October 2008 Indialantic Record. Ms, Marx will also ask Ms. Eaton about where is the money coming from for supplies of the DVD’s. Is the money coming from the Committee or Town’s budget?
Mrs. Twitty-Mercer will repost the advertised sign for DVD’s for sale at Town Hall on the counter top.
Ms. Bozeman suggested sending a mass email of advertising to the Melbourne Beach event of Indialantic. Committee members are asked to send email addresses to Ms. Bozeman for this mass email.
Ms. Bozeman will be adding Ms. Dorsy Evans to the Potential Interviewee list.
B. Melbourne Beach
The event is for September 2008 at the Melbourne Beach old Town Hall building. The event will have a display of Indialantic. It was suggested at this meeting that committee members be present to sell DVD’s of “Historical Conversations” and “Portrait of a Community” along with postcards and to hand out the “Historic Building Guide” brochure from the Town’s 55th Anniversary Celebration-2007. The event is open to the public only on Saturdays, September 06, 13, 20 and 27, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. This event needs to be advertised more, and the suggestion is word of mouth. On September 27, 2008, Ms. Milligan will be at the event from 2:00 p.m. till 3:00 p.m.
IV. Projects
A. Potential Interviewee Schedule
January 2009 schedules for interviews. Chairperson Marx will contact Mr. Goldfarb about interviews. The goal is for eight to be completed in January 2009.
B. Archive Files
Ms. Andren advised the committee that archiving has been on vacation for the past few weeks. Ms. Andren has been gathering items to go to Melbourne Beach for the showing of Indialantic. Getting the exhibit in Melbourne Beach completed. Tying up loose ends. Filing past interviews promptly. Cleaning out photos from photo contest. Mr. Goldfarb would like to put the postcards on the Town’s newest website, when the website is up and running.
V. Other
Sunday, November 16, 2008, 2:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m. Indialantic Show and Tell
“Come celebrate our 56th anniversary”
Ms. Sherman will contact channel 13 for advertisement.
Ms. Grout suggested having a postcard winner blown up, and then having that as the background for the invitation with the information on it.
Ms. Milligan suggested one person on each street to pass the word about the event. Ms. Milligan will also contact the school about passing out flyers.
Brevard County museums and libraries would be an advertising advantage.
VI. Items for next Meeting- October 21, 2008 8:00 a.m. (09-01)
A. Chairperson Marx asked that at least two names from each committee member be provided for the interview, either audio or video interviews.
B. The question came up about who was the first Indialantic Police Chief. Pete Mardel’s name was mentioned, along with his wife of Bea. Ms. Grout will look into this history.
C. Ms. Milligan suggested to track past hurricanes.
D. Chairperson Marx suggested talking to Officer DesChenes for any of his input on anything the committee is working on.
VII. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
